THE LUBBEN BROTHERS
Lauded for their “remarkable musicianship and humble idealism” (The Sun Sentinel), The Lubben Brothers have spent their lives pioneering an original sound steeped in lyrical sensitivity, rich vocal harmonies, brotherly banter, and the multi-instrumental flair of the American folk tradition. After sharing childhood on a goat farm in a family of six brothers, Michael, Josh, and Tom weave their colorful life story into their concerts and songs, earning a reputation as “a folk-singing force” (Palm Beach Illustrated) now with roots in Nashville, TN. Though their classical studies began at the age of 5, the brothers grew up on open-air concerts featuring local fiddlers, folksingers, dancers, and storytellers, all of which drove them to find their unique voice in the folk tradition. Now, supported by two decades of classical study and over ten years of performance, the 30-year-old brothers are veterans of the stage with tour appearances ranging from classical performing arts centers to hockey arenas.
Their original music has aired on radio stations across the United States, and was specially chosen as an encore for NPR’s “Live from Here” with Chris Thile (2020). In the world of film, the music from their Christmas album “Snow” was featured in Netflix’s premiere film of the 2021 season, Love Hard. While The Lubben Brothers continue to headline folk festivals and entertain venues nationwide, their classical roots have led to award-winning collaborations with orchestras, choirs, and theatre companies.
Notable collaborations include the brothers’ performance of Beethoven’s Triple Concerto and original songs with The Symphony of The Americas (Feb. 2020), the Palm Beach Shakespeare Company’s production of “Twelfth Night” scored by The Lubben Brothers (Summer 2021), and multiple collaborations with Sarasota’s Key Chorale featuring original choral works (2022-2025). In Fall 2025, the brothers will celebrate the premiere of their original musical, “The Luck, ” at The Gordon Theatre in Pensacola, FL.
When not performing, The Lubben Brothers actively write, record, and release new music to a steadily growing worldwide audience; most recently, their album “Wonder” released to all digital platforms in January, 2025. The brothers plan to release tracks from their upcoming American Storytellers album Summer 2025, followed by a full-length album of songs from their musical “The Luck” in the Fall.
A little bit about Joshua
“Joshua's musical artistry is eclipsed only by his winsome character and incomparable good looks. “ - J.S. Bach
The youngest of the Lubben triplets, Joshua is usually seen wedged between his brothers with a guitar in his hands. When not performing with his brothers, he spends mots of his artistic output writing, orchestrating, and music-directing for theaters including Palm Beach Frameworks, Sight & Sound Theatre, The Maltz Jupiter Theatre, and the King’s Academy Theatre.
Favorite shows include “Death of a Salesman” (composer/pianist), “The Spitfire Grill” (music director/pianist), (composer/guitarist/pianist), “Romeo and Juliet” (composer/music director/pianist), and “Songs for a New World” (music director/pianist).
In 2021, Joshua was awarded the Artist Innovation Fellowship by the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County in honor of his achievements and contributions as a Florida-based musician. From new headquarters in Nashville, TN, Joshua’s next projects include the original score for a Fall production of Shakespear’s “Henry V,” and the orchestration of a new Christmas cantata, “Landmark Town.”
When not doing music things, Joshua loses at board games, reads Ray Bradbury, and drinks too much coffee.
A little bit about michael
Michael prides himself as playing the second weirdest instrument in the band: the banjo (second to Tom’s accordion). You’ll also find him on stage performing piano and violin (or fiddle, depending on the context). Along with his brothers, Michael began his career as a classical musician. He has soloed several times with orchestras as a solo pianist, playing such pieces as Ravel’s Concerto en Sol and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. As a composer and songwriter, he has been writing music since age 12. With a Masters in Music Production from Berklee College of Music, Michael fully produces the Lubben Brothers’ albums and music releases.
In addition to all the crazy stuff he does with his brothers, he works as a freelance musician and producer, and as Music Director at Gladeville Methodist Church outside Nashville. He loves hanging out with his wife, Karol, their children Gabriel and Eliza, and enjoys waking up early to drink coffee and stare bleary-eyed out the window.
A little bit about Tom
Proudly titled the nerdiest triplet, Tom studied English in college and now--besides correcting his brothers' use of grammar during performances--writes much of the book for their musicals and contributes some lyrics. After high school, Tom and his brothers spent three formative years in the Great North Woods in Northern Minnesota, where they developed a relationship with the wilderness that has become a vast inspiration to their artistic output. It was during this time that Tom met Bob Wenzel, a gifted luthier who became a close friend and who later provided "The Magini," Tom's treasured violin that has shaped his role as a fiddle player and performer with The Lubben Brothers.
Since beginning their career in Minnesota as composers and performers, Tom and his brothers endeavor to inspire their audiences and followers with the same freedom and wonder they have experienced in music.
